About Me

Hello and Thank You for visiting the website!

Sometimes people want to know a little bit about the person who they feel they are planning on seeing and sharing their most inner secrets, hurts, pains, joys and accomplishments with.  Sometimes it may be that you just want to know more about the professional's education, training and background to see if they are a "good fit" in working with you.  Whatever the reason may be for you, I hope that the information I have provided here helps you to come to a decision of whether or not I am the right therapist to meet your counseling needs.

I received both my Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Science degree from Tennessee State University in the field of Psychology, in 1991 and 1994, respectively.  I have worked with both children, adolescents and adults spanning my 20 year professional career.  I have taught academically at the collegiate level and have been a presenter on program to several different professional organizations.  I am licensed in the State of Tennessee as a Professional Counselor with the Mental Health Service Provider endorsement and, I am certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional by the IATP.  I volunteered for nine years in juvenile court as a board member for children in fostercare and I also volunteered with DCS in reviewing reported cases of child abuse.

I have worked with children and adults for the past 28 years helping them restore a sense of normalcy and balance to their lives.  My clinical practice consists of the treatment of trauma, bereavement/grief and loss, employee assistance (EAP), conflict resolution/workplace issues, affective disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, family issues, and pre-marital and couples counseling all in a safe, empathic environment.  My approach to treatment is eclectic; no two people are alike, therefore treatment has to be as individualized as the person.  I am trained in various evidence-based treatment modalities including Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement, Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Levels I & II, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prepare/Enrich and the Gottman Method Couples Therapy - Levels 1 & 2 to name a few.  I also have specialized training related to crisis response (CRT), critical incident stress management (CISM), suicide, traumatic grief and trauma debriefing (CISD) for adults and children.

I hold memberships in the following professional organizations:

American Counseling Association (ACA)
American Psychological Association (APA)
Employee Assistance Professionals Association (EAPA)
International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP)
Tennessee Licensed Professional Counselors Association (TLPCA)
